About Dayna McLean

This will be my second year teaching a 2/3 at Alice King Community School. I recently moved to New Mexico from Massachusetts, where I taught third grade at a school for students with language-based learning disabilities. I have a Masters of Education from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA and a Bachelors degree in Psychology with a Sociology minor from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I love to do anything outdoors, especially hiking, camping and snowboarding and I love to travel. I am excited to be getting married next summer to my supportive fiance, Sam. I am looking forward to an awesome year this year at AKCS. My EA is Cathy Martin. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. She is married and has two wonderful children, ages 13 and 11.

Boo Bash- The Boo Bash is taking place on Friday, October 28th at AKCS. Our class is still in need of some volunteers to help with the set up on Thursday afternoon, from 3-5. Please let me know if you are willing to help out. Thanks!

The Fantasy Animal Projects turned out great! We are almost through the presentations, and the students are having a great time. I am impressed with their hard work and creativity. Our next monthly project will be going home next week. Look for it in next weeks’s homework folders!

I am excited to tell you all about IXL- our schools newest online math tool. IXL is a great website with loads of math activities- and each child now has an account.

Starting this week, I will be sending home additional IXL homework to be completed by the following week. Make sure to check your child’s homework folder for a notice with directions and their username and password coming home!

Friendship Day & other reminders

On Thursday, September 22nd the AKCS school community will be celebrating Friendship Day. If you have one, wear your Alice King t-shirt on this day to show support for our school!

This will also be the first Pizza Thursday! Please send money in asap if you would like your child to get pizza for lunch!

And a reminder- Popcorn will be sold on Tuesday’s after school for fifty cents a bag!

Look out for our upcoming newsletter! Have a great day!
