At Alice King Community School, our mission is to create a personalized education in a multiage learning community inclusive of intelligence type and developmental level, integrating families as essential partners.
The Alice King Community School continues to provide a unique state-of-the-art educational experience to a diverse group of students from all over the Albuquerque metropolitan area. They receive more than 300 applications per year, and currently have over 150 children on the waiting list. Although the Alice King Community School is a public school, the per-pupil funding for facilities and operations is less than traditional public schools. Charter schools cannot issue bonds or levy taxes for capital funding; therefore, they need to find and develop other avenues to fund their needs.
The Alice King Community School Foundation was formed to assist the school in continuing to provide “a private school education in a public school setting.” They are committed to continuing with a low student-staff ratio, dynamic and skilled teachers and educational assistants, and the most updated educational materials and tools to prepare students with 21st Century skills. With the anticipated growth, the school needs funding for the following:
- Adding a portable building classroom for their new 6th grade class by August 2011
- Additional educational materials to fully equip the new 6th grade and 2/3 classroom
- Purchase of computers, interactive whiteboards and other technology tools in order to compete with national top-ranked schools
- Providing shade structures for our playground
- Ultimately build a new school
